First Thoughts on Canon R6

After getting out and shooting with the Canon EOS R6, below are my takeaways after a few hours with the camera.

Good

  • Image quality was excellent, especially in 4K60p

  • 120p is very usable, was soft in comparison, but cut together well with the 4K footage

  • 10bit color graded very nicely without falling apart - had latitude to push and pull in post

  • Autofocus and tracking was very accurate and reliable - never had to turn it off or felt like I was waiting on it to catch up

  • No signs of any overheating

  • Ergonomics and ability to control everything with external buttons is a massive plus

  • Battery life - shot the entire video on one battery

  • Files edited fairly smoothly in Premiere Pro

Bad

  • IBIS wobble on extreme wide angle (15mm-20mm range)

  • Wish it had Shutter Angle - Like Panasonic S Line of cameras

  • Wish Canon would release CLog3 for the R6

Ugly

  • Nothing to note

Hopefully you found the video and insight into my first video shoot with the Canon R6 helpful.

Let me know below if you have any questions or comments and I look forward to shooting more with the camera in the future!
